Specifying the datum references in a datum target is faster and easier. If the datum feature symbol to be referenced already exists in the model or the drawing, you can select it by clicking the icon that selects the datum reference from the model. The datum references are filled in and the number is added after the datum name. You can also type the datum name and number into the box. If the datum feature symbol exists, a connection is then established between the datum feature symbol and the datum target. Datum references with a connection to an existing datum feature symbol appear as green text in the Datum Target tab. If the datum feature symbol does not exist in the model or the drawing, the datum reference box is populated with plain text. You can then create datum target annotations without first having to create a datum feature symbol. Datum references specified as plain text and with no connection to an existing datum feature symbol appear as black text.
